12 HOURS
During 3 days, PDV is the world ATV capitale with the presence of the best racing stables.
The race is taking 12 hours.

Each racing stable can enter 2 or 3 pilots, change of pilots is compulsory after a maximun of 2 hours. Most of them are 3 which is less tiring : the PDV track is physically extremely exhausting. The mechanic is less tested by a team with 2 pilotes, much more homogeneous. Indeed each pilot has his own style (changes of speed, jumps etc) and machines are suffering less, it's not the case for the pilots.
Four heats : Saturday 1st of September 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm and from 10.00 pm to 1.00 am, then Sunday 2nd of September 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and at last form 3.00 pm to 5.pm. The night heat (Saturday evening) is a great moment. Between 2 heats, all the quads must be immediately parked in th the closed area, guarded by the marshals This regulation specific to endurance races prevent any mechanical intervention or maintenance between the heat. So not only the pilots have to hunt the time but they also have to tinker with their quad less often than possible since the least problem can only be repaired by the pilot himself on the track or in the pits while other riders build up the laps.
Technical and tactical choices are essential for anyone who wants to win. Reliability, speed and homogeneousness are the rule. But hopefully, there is a little part of chance when laps are counted up.

FREE STYLE
Because of the last year success, this year again there will be Jump contest in partnership with the magzine ATV L'officiel du quad.

An informal competition that takes place during each round on the American table. At every lap, a jury watchs the pilots and gives them a mark taking into account not only the length of the jump but also the style. A backloop on a 300 m jump and it's normally the author's victory.
But we never know..

GUNS

THE OPPOSING FORCES
For the racing stables, the preparation of the 12 Hours of Pont de Vaux, the hardest ATV race receives particular attention.

Here is the frame of 3 among them : Joel Bontoux Yamaha Motor France /Audemar, Josep Vidal Yamaha Moto Espana/Trivimon, Stuart Walker Zipwear Racing Products.

How long have you been here in Pont de Vaux ?
JB: We are here since the beginning, in 1987.
JV: Our first race was in 1998
SW : my first race was in 1990.....done 11 times . Maybe the 12th time will be the good one.
What is your machine ?
JB :
This year, we will ride the new Raptor 660 instead of the 350 Banshee, a 4 stroke
JV : We will also have a 660
SW : we have a Laeger Banshee 350cc
What are the power and the reasons of your choice ?
JB
: about 70 horsepower. It's a quad with a great motivity on difficult ground. It's less tiring for an endurance. And besides, it's a bit challenge of the new quad.
JV : it has been measured at 64 horsepower, but what is important is its stability and also its full braking system.
SW :Strong points Imacutate preperation, like last years award winning bike Duncan racings proven reliability, laeger chassis with pep shocks for handling
Is it necessary to have a specific preparation for an ATV race ?
JB : We have particularly adapted the machine in order to have a quick intervention in the pits : changes of wheels, brake pads, refuelling.
JV : We paid attention more on its reliability than on its power: suspension, steering, braking. We have to hold 12 hours !
SW : Training is about man & machine ... Good will of the team & compatability of Riders. The best parts and makers.
Please present us the pilots
JB : This year our team is a 100% French one with JB, Alexandre Dutrie ( the fastest at the end of the straight line in Pdv 130 km/h) and Jérome Gandelin, both of them are regular of PdV. Joel won four times (87.88.89 and 91)
JV : Josep Prat and Miguel Portulas will be there again whereas for Victor Petit it's the first time but he is very fast.
SW : we are doing it with Walker, Cole & Greg Lassagne same team as last year
And what are your expectations concerning this race ?
JB : we hope the podium and the 1st place at the 4 stroke ranking.
JV : Of course the victory but being among the 1st 5 would be a good result.
SW : we have always been strong enough to finish on the podium , I have never achieved this personally We should finish on the podium this year.... I hope !! I am now 40 Yrs old , But have better stamina than ever.

In any case, with the arrival in force of the 4 stroke this year, there should be a podium and why not the 1st rank.

YOUNG QUAD
A special ranking in partnership with TSO allows the best classified young pilot to win his entry to le Touquet.

Thanks to this agreement and to their performances in le Touquet this year, the Van Delft brothers (Joost and Arno) won the entry to the 12 Hours
