The coronation of a champion

Every year, the International Motorcycle Federation celebrates its world champions during a gala evening together with 500 guests. This prestigious ceremony was organised this December at Monte Carlo. For the fourth consecutive year, Camelia sees herself crowned for the cross-country category.

A top athlete, Camelia does not want to be complacent and she is actively preparing herself in order to face the Dakar 2013 tracks of South America. " The race will begin in Peru and this part will certainly be a very difficult start. It will also be essential to manage the marathon stage before the rest day..." states Camelia who hopes once more to make the Top 10 to the Top 5… at the end of a 8000 kilometres race between Peru, Argentina and Chile.

" There will be 40 quad-bikes at the start, a record and I will be again the only female competitor. First of all, I count on my regularity and the reliability of my Yamaha Raptor 700, on which I have this year made its maintenance easier to manage and it is a vehicle which has already proved to perform at 100 per cent. We know each other well us two as we have already gone a long way together…" she says humorously. For her 5th Dakar, Camelia will carry her usual race number 259, a number which her 28000 facebook fans will follow day after day with excitement.

Camelia is calm, just like a quad...ruple world champion who leaves nothing to chance in terms of physical preparation: running, weight-training, stretching and skiing together with some sessions of sauna wearing her full racing clothes including her helmet and boots in order to accustom her body to the extreme conditions of the Dakar. " I compensate my lack of strength working on my endurance and on my technical skills. And for someone who has the will and the motivation it is not useful to put the pressure on!" admits Camelia smiling and giving us a meeting from the 5th of January 2013 in Lima.
